OUR STORY
Hi! We are Vitamin Sea. Welcome Aboard.
We are the Hegemann’s, an adventurous family from Hamburg who decided to live our dreams and explore the world by sea.
At the end of last year, we embarked on a great adventure as a family. Together, we crossed the Atlantic on a brand new Lagoon 42-2 catamaran, the “Vitamin Sea,” fulfilling a long-planned family project. This journey came after four years of planning, starting with virtually zero sailing experience.
Our Journey
Our journey began with an intense four-year preparation period. During this time, we learned everything we needed to know about sailing, obtained boating licenses, and attended numerous long-distance sailing seminars. The goal was clear: to cross the Atlantic and spend one season in the Caribbean
We started our journey with a love for adventure and a desire to explore. As a family, we thrive on discovering new places and experiences together. When we go on vacation, we do it on our own terms, usually in remote areas. Packaged tours are boring to us – that’s not our style. Our kids feel the same way and share this sentiment.
Why We Needed a Change
Apart from seeking adventure, we needed a change in our lives. We wanted more from life and needed to slow down. Every day in the daily hustle felt compromising – compromising on what life has to offer. We didn’t see our kids as much as we would have loved to. Every day began with the morning rush, not truly seeing our kids until the next bedtime. The day was full of activities and responsibilities, the constant challenges and movement – it all felt like a grind.
We felt mentally drained from work, sometimes even unable to fully engage as a family. We needed a change to be the partners and parents our kids deserve. It felt like the last chance in life before they grow up and leave home.
Our goal was to create a shared family experience that everyone would remember for a long time and talk about for years to come. We waited for the perfect moment, until the kids had completed their exams and were free from school obligations. We also realized that this might be the final opportunity to embark on a grand adventure together before our kids pursue their own interests and possibly start families.
Our Motto
Our motto is: “Living life to the fullest.” We wanted to show our children that achieving big dreams is possible. To illustrate what it means to realize those dreams, create unforgettable experiences with the family, and simultaneously run a successful business. We didn’t want to choose between them anymore – we wanted to experience having both. ❤️
We didn’t wait for everything to be perfect. We made a decision despite all obstacles.
Our Vision
We hope to inspire others to pursue their own dreams, no matter how big the challenges may be. It’s never the perfect moment – you need to have the courage to start and find your way.

The Crew
Peter

Peter is the devoted husband, father, and captain who takes pride and joy in navigating the family into uncharted territories and new adventures. Responsible for the sailing, navigational, and technical aspects of the boat, he ensures that each journey is safe, smooth, and filled with excitement.
Doreen

Doreen is the mother and entrepreneur who drives the family project with enthusiasm, continuing to run her business from onboard. She loves discovering new places, cultures and to explore the world, inspiring everyone to seize the moment and make unforgettable memories, without sacrifice.
Anna
first officer
Anna is the vibrant and adventurous daughter of the Hegemann family. A true water sports enthusiast. Her passion for the ocean is matched only by her curiosity about the world, driving her to explore new places and cultures.
Nicolas

Nicolas is the eldest son and earned his captain’s license at just 15 years old. Always ready to take on new challenges, Nicolas is also the fishing expert on board, finding great joy in catching fish and providing fresh seafood for the family.

Flash is the beloved and loyal boat cat. Always ready for a cuddle when anyone needs it. He eagerly anticipates every caught fish, his favorite treat sashimi, adding an extra touch of joy to life on the “Vitamin Sea.”

Our Catamaran
This catamaran has been our home and adventure partner, helping us fulfill a long-held dream of crossing the Atlantic and exploring the world as a family.
Our Lagoon 42 not only ensured we felt safe and secure at all times, but it also provided us with the comfort and performance needed for such a significant journey. Participating in the ARC Rallye was a highlight of our adventure. Despite having no prior racing plans, we were thrilled to achieve third place in Category B, a testament to the catamaran’s exceptional capabilities.
As a family, we have found the Lagoon 42 to be ideal for our needs. Its spacious layout and thoughtful design have allowed us to enjoy both the thrill of sailing and the comfort of living aboard.
