Meet the Crew
Captain Nicolas Hegemann
Hi, I’m Nico – a passionate sailor and adventurer with a deep connection to the sea. After a year-long sailing journey through Europe, the Caribbean, and the US – including a transatlantic crossing as co-skipper – I’ve gained a wealth of experience navigating diverse waters and handling challenges that come with life on a boat. With over 11,000 nautical miles under my belt, I’ve learned that adaptability and an open mind are key to making every journey a success.
As an experienced skipper, I’m skilled at confidently and safely maneuvering a boat, often solo. I earned my skipper license a year before reaching the minimum age requirement, so I had to wait 1 year until it was valid. My first big voyage was crossing the Atlantic Ocean, but I gained the experience for the big 22 day passage by sailing through the mediterranean sea. Over time, I’ve also built a strong network within the sailing community, constantly learning and sharing experiences with fellow sailors. Additionally, I hold Medical Certificate for first aid, aswell as a STCW Safety Training License, ensuring I’m well-prepared for any situation at sea.
Sailing has taught me to embrace the unexpected and appreciate the beauty in every moment. Now, I’m thrilled to bring back my expertise to the beautiful sailing grounds of St. Maarten, St. Barth & Anguilla, where our Lagoon 42, Vitamin Sea, offers the perfect setting for a unique and unforgettable sailing experience. Whether you’re seeking adventure or relaxation, I look forward to making your time on the water as enjoyable as possible.
First Maid Eyleen Johannsen
Hi, I’m Eyleen, Nico’s girlfriend and together we make a great team dedicated to providing you with an unforgettable experience on board. Growing up in Hamburg, I’ve always loved the water – though mostly from the perspective of being on land. But since last year, I’ve had the chance to experience the beauty of the ocean directly from the water.
I have a Medical Certificate aswell as the STCW Safety training licence.
I am familiar with Vitamin Sea for half a Year now, as Nico first invited me on the boat in July for a big passage and stay.
I’m fascinated by how life at sea makes every day unique – from the first rays of sunlight glistening on the waves to unforgettable moments under the starry sky.
On board the Vitamin Sea, we want you to feel at home and truly enjoy your time on the water – whether you’re looking to relax or have an adventure. We’ll both do our best to make it happen.
